His Holiness has chosen a theme for the occasion that can be understood by those who are interested in Buddhism but who don't know much about it so that they may receive teachings from the original, pure source. This will help them to become familiar with the most important teachings of the Buddha and to begin to form a picture of the roots of Tibetan Buddhism.
His Holiness has been giving regular teachings in Western countries for many years. The programmes have two parts: the so-called “public teaching” for people who are not familiar with Buddhist philosophy, and the “Buddhist teaching” for those who are more advanced in Buddhist practice. Finally there will be a special event that is a part of the Tibetan tradition and practice: the initiation, or blessing.
Both parts can be watched for free at EsoGuru.com here:

In the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, Chenrezi (in Sanskrit: Avalokiteshvara) is the bodhisattva of compassion, who embodies and gives life to the selfless helpfulness, and to the caring and undiscriminating love that is genuinely in us. To the ordinary mind he is a god, whom the Tibetan people have worshipped for centuries.
For advanced Buddhist practitioners Chenrezig is the ability to selflessly help others that is an eternal part of the pure nature of our mind. The strength of his compassion comes from the realization of the interdependence of all beings. According to the Buddhist tradition we can attain this state of mind only through long practice and for this practice we need initiation and blessing from an authorized master.
According to the Tibetan Buddhist tradition the Dalai Lamas, including His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso the XIV Dalai Lama, are manifestations of Chenrezig, the bodhisattva of Compassion.
In the course of his visit to Budapest his Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama will give the Chenrezi initiation which is for advanced Buddhists not only a blessing, but also incorporates teaching, guidance and initiation.

In the public teaching, His Holiness will speak about the importance of worldly ethical values, independent from the Buddhist religion, and how ordinary people can attain inner peace and happiness through positive thinking, openness and compassionate caring towards each other.
The Dalai Lama has written many successful books about these immensely important ideas. Those who are interested in this theme will have the opportunity to hear at first hand the teachings and thoughts of His Holiness.
